My guest for this episode is John Templeman of Jib Machine Records. His label focuses mainly on rock but started as a punk label and has featured metal acts. John is a multi-instrumentalist musician and includes some of his work among the Jib Machine roster.
John started Jib Machine Records in 2004. The label has released over 60 records, initially focused on local talent in and around Cleveland, Ohio. Jib Machine has since expanded its reach internationally. John also founded 13 Recordings, a production operation specializing in sonic ferocity. He’s become one of the most recognizable faces in the Cleveland underground and is known as a label owner who cares deeply about the musicians on his roster. John also cares deeply about the future of recorded and live music in Ohio and beyond.
In this conversation, John and I talk about his musical roots in Ohio, touring post-pandemic, his favorite music news sources, concert ticket prices, change-driven marketing, Jib Machine Records, artist contributions to their success, and more. Please enjoy my conversation with John Templeman of Jib Machine Records.
