Radiohead broke ground in the industry with its release of In Rainbows

Radiohead broke ground in the industry with its release of “In Rainbows,” and its online pay-what-you-want model. Their forthcoming album will, not surprisingly, sell by a more traditional model–the price is this. Even so, the band is still doing some unique things. In addition to a traditional download, there will be special pricing for WAV format downloads, and a deluxe edition that will include a double LP, a CD and swanky artwork.

Less than longtime fans like me will be interested to see if the band can pull off another work comparable to “In Rainbows” or prior releases. Whatever happens, Yorke and company have already secured their place in music, having demonstrated a lengthy career of creativity. The new album “The King of Limbs” will be released in this coming weekend in a digital version available online, according to this Reuters report.
