As a working musician, I’ve learned that knowing how to book music gigs successfully means thinking beyond the typical Saturday night bar scene. After years of trial and error, and talking with other musicians, I’ve discovered that some of the most profitable and fulfilling performances happen in alternative venues. Let me share the strategies that have transformed my booking success and the booking success of other musicians I know.
Finding Alternative Music Venues That Pay
One of my favorite tips from Tara’s book “20 Must Have Booking Tips Every Musician Needs” is to expand your venue search. Every space with good acoustics and foot traffic is a potential stage. I and others have successfully booked gigs at:
– Corporate events
– Art galleries
– Community festivals
– Private events
– Boutique retail shops
– Local breweries
– Public parks
These alternative music venues often have built-in audiences and, surprisingly, better budgets than traditional bars and clubs.
The Persistence Principle in Booking Gigs
